Developing Brussels' waterfront

Side by side, two of architectesassoc’s upcoming housing projects alongside the canal sit left and right of the pedestrian Pont Picard currently at tender stage. CANAL WHARF (developed by AGRealEstate & Vooruitzicht) and QUAI DE WILLEBROECK (developed by Extensa) will together actively participate in regenerating a zone brimming with potential. Indeed, these two choice waterfront locations confirm Brussels’ effort to bridge the canal and connect with Tour&Taxis’s cultural hub and soon-to-come parks west, while remaining just a short walk away from the future Brussels Museum of Contemporary Art south or from the North Station east. Both clients and architectesassoc have worked in close collaboration with the city’s Bouwmeester ensuring as such a coherent global view starting at design stage and up until permit delivery. Clearly delimited and qualified unbuilt space were extensively discussed, whether in defining the park around which CANAL WHARF wraps itself, positionning pedestrian accesses, or designing the public plaza imagined on QUAI DE WILLEBROECK. Both projects will be on site before end 2017.
