From Elia to breeam to bre and the performance gap
Following ELIA’s BREEAM certification, , architectesassoc. participated in this BRE
research program undertaken to compare ways in which four european countries
are tackling / understanding the gap between the expected energy efficiency of homes when designed and their as-built performance. They
investigated in each country:
- the awareness of the construction industry of this issue ;
- the effect (or not) in the building standards and/or industry practice ;
- the design assessment models used and their accuracy ;
- how accuracy of data used in the model is controlled ;
- how design complexity of the home is controlled ;
- how construction quality and skills are assured ;
- how materials, mechanical and electrical performances are checked ;
- how the conformity of what is installed to what was specified is verified ;
- what models for construction testing and verification are applied.
This report shows their results.
