architectesassoc+ and Atelier Kempe Thill (NL) won the competition for a new large-scale housing estate “Dames Blanches” in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, on the outskirts of the Brussels agglomeration. The SLRB / BGHM public housing corporation is the initiator of the project. The low-rise high-density project consists of more than 200 apartments spread over 8 different buildings. Next to houses, there will be a daycare for children, apartment blocks on a parking garage, a home for the elderly, terraced houses, and a small community center. All ground-floor housing types have a private garden. Living in this new neighborhood has the ambition to be respectful of the individuals, families, and the environment. Flexibility of use is a way to ensure the longevity of a building. Therefore the parking garage is designed in a way that it can be easily adapted to other uses in the future. For the houses, alternative construction methods and biobased sourced materials are used as much as possible.
