Elia Service CenterView project | The ELIA Service Center in Kruisem consists of a passive office building (1.155 m²), a low-energy warehouse and workshop (5.083 m²), and a waste collection area with covered outdoor storage (4.001 m²). The landscape design includes 20% unpaved surface for water infiltration, with additional permeable paving and green zones, integrating tree planting and a small wadi near the buffer basins. The project aims for CO2 neutrality, with energy-efficient building systems, water infiltration measures, and modular, prefabricated construction to minimize material waste and environmental footprint. Architecturally, the building is composed of two rectangular volumes connected at a slight angle, maximizing buildable area while ensuring sufficient manoeuvring space around the workshop. The warehouse and workshop are constructed from prefabricated concrete elements, clad in insulated steel sandwich panels. The office is composed of modular, prefabricated wood elements, enhancing flexibility and sustainability, while providing thermal efficiency and a reduced carbon footprint. The facades of the office are clad in thermally treated wood using the ‘Shou Sugi Ban’ technique, giving the wood enhanced fire resistance and durability, complemented by gold tinted aluminium window frames. |
